Fire Suppression

Washington County Fire Rescue provides structural and wildland fire protection for Washington County, Virginia in the southern part of the county along Interstate 81. We house 2 Engines, 1 Tanker, and a Brush Truck that are utilized to support these protection functions. We provide and receive automatic aid from Abingdon Fire Department, Goodson Kinderhook Fire Department, and Green Spring Fire Department as well. The members of our department are trained to the Virginia Department of Fire Programs Firefighter 1 level at minimum with the majority being trained at a higher level.

 

Engine 1 is a 2010 Spartan manufactured by Rosenbauer. Engine 1 is first due to all structural and vehicle fires in our area. It has a 1,250 gallon per minute Hale pump with a 1,000 gallon tank capacity with 20 gallons of onboard Class A Foam System. It has many hand tools utilized on the fire ground to ensure the job is completed safely and efficiently. Engine 1 is certified through Virginia Office of EMS as a First Response apparatus to be able to provide Basic Life Support if needed.

 

Engine 1-2 is a 2001 KME. Engine 1-2 is a back up Engine that carries the same equipment as Engine 1 and also has the same pump capabilities whether needed to run first due while Engine 1 is being serviced or as an additional Engine on larger scenes.

 

Tanker 1 is a 2005 Freightliner manufactured by Rosenbauer. Tanker 1 is second due to all fires in our area. It has a 2,000 gallon per minute Hale pump and has 3,036 gallon tank capacity. It has all the equipment needed for successful tanker operations when hydrants are not accessible.

 

Brush 1 is a 2000 Ford F-550 with a custom bed built to house equipment, pump, and tank water. Brush 1 is first due to all wildland and natural vegetation fires in our area. It has an 18 horsepower Hale pump and 300 gallon tank capacity. Brush 1 also has foam capabilities with 10 gallons of foam on board. Brush 1 is also certified through Virginia Office of EMS as a First Response Apparatus to provide Basic Life Support if needed.

Fire Investigation

Washington County Fire Rescue has several members who are certified at the Fire Investigator Level to determine the Origin and Cause of fires. If the cause is determined to be incendiary or arson related, then Virginia State Police and the Virginia State Fire Marshal's Office is contacted to further assist in the investigation.
